Logan Webb is the reason the line flips. His home ERA this season: 1.52 in 9 starts — 59.1 innings, just 10 earned runs, a 4–1 record. On the road, he's a different pitcher entirely. But at Oracle, with these conditions, Webb doesn't need to be great. He needs to be Webb. Bryce Elder toes the rubber for Atlanta, and while the Braves' lineup is elite, 21-mph crosswinds are the great equalizer. The total sits at 8.0 — the question isn't which side, it's whether 8 is high enough when Oracle plays like this.

On Wednesday, David Peterson was a Met. On Friday, he was a Cub. On Saturday, he starts against the best team in the National League.

The Mets traded Peterson to Chicago for infielder Cole Mathis on June 25 — and the Cubs plugged him directly into the rotation 48 hours later. It's the baseball equivalent of landing at a new job and being told to present to the CEO on your first morning. Peterson struggled in Queens — a 5.91 ERA and a 1.63 WHIP suggested a pitcher who needed a change of scenery more than a change of mechanics. The Cubs are hoping the scenery does the work.

The Brewers are 50–29, the best record in the National League, and they're sending Kyle Harrison to the mound at American Family Field. Milwaukee has been the NL's runaway train since May — deep pitching, relentless lineup, an organization that develops talent faster than it loses it. For Peterson, this is trial by fire. For the Cubs (44–38), six games back in the Central, it's a barometer: can a reclamation project contribute in a division race that's slipping away?
