It is the only game on the NFL board, and it is built from mismatches in both directions. Atlanta's defense has allowed 143 rushing yards in three games, 47.7 a game and the fewest in the league; the next-best team, Jacksonville, allows 74.2. New Orleans allows 128.7 a game, 26th. Atlanta's offense is the other half of it: 173.0 rushing yards a game, second only to Chicago, at 5.0 a carry, with Bijan Robinson at 349 yards on 66 carries and two touchdowns.
The Saints are the mirror image. Tyler Shough is 91-of-132 for 917 yards, eight touchdowns and three interceptions, and New Orleans averages 281.3 net passing yards a game, fourth in the NFL. Atlanta allows 263.0, 30th, and gave up 311 net passing yards at Green Bay on Sept. 24 in a 35-14 win.
Game script clouds both numbers. Atlanta's opponents have run 52 times in three games, 17.3 a game, and Carolina won 34-3 at Atlanta on Sept. 20, so some of the 47.7 is circumstance. ESPN lists New Orleans linebackers Kaden Elliss (calf, the team's leading tackler with 24) and Anfernee Jennings (knee) and defensive end Carl Granderson (ankle) as out. Atlanta has had 11 days since its Thursday-night game to New Orleans' eight, and the trip is 1,011 miles and one time zone. The Superdome is covered, so weather is not part of the argument.
DraftKings has New Orleans -1.5 with a 47.5 total; across eight books the consensus is -1.4 and 47.8.
Olave has 27 catches for 375 yards and a touchdown, 40.9% of New Orleans' 917 passing yards, and Shough is completing 68.9% of his passes. The Saints' offense is the one that gets the ball in the air: 305.7 gross passing yards a game, second only to Carolina.
Atlanta placed Terrell, who signed a four-year, $81 million extension in 2024, on injured reserve with a groin injury after he left the Sept. 20 loss to Carolina (ESPN). Injured reserve carries a four-game minimum, so he cannot return before Week 7. Atlanta's net passing yards allowed have climbed each week: 206 at Pittsburgh, 272 against Carolina, 311 at Green Bay.
The counterweight is pressure. New Orleans has taken 10 sacks in three games; Atlanta has five as a team, and Za'Darius Smith's 2.5 lead it. Defensive end Samson Ebukam (hamstring) is listed questionable.
No team in the division has a winning record. Carolina leads at 2-2 (+12 point differential) and holds the division's only result so far, a win over Atlanta. Atlanta and New Orleans are both 1-2, at -17 and -2, and Tampa Bay is 0-4 at -20. Atlanta is 0-1 in the division; New Orleans has not played a division game.
Monday's winner draws level with Carolina on record; the loser falls to 1-3 and ahead of only the Buccaneers. The teams meet again Jan. 3, 2027, in Atlanta. Next up, Minnesota (4-0) visits New Orleans on Sunday and Baltimore visits Atlanta that night.
