Cleveland's bullpen already looks like it worked a long night, and instead of a day off, today's schedule hands the Guardians a doubleheader against the last-place club in their own division. The real test tonight isn't whether Cleveland is better than Detroit (64-75, nothing left to play for) — it's whether a taxed pen can cover 18 innings without the smallest possible wild card cushion slipping away.

Carlos Hernández, Matt Festa, and Hunter Gaddis have each pitched in two of Cleveland's last three games, all heading into today's twin bill on the "likely unavailable" side of the workload chart. The market has moved hard toward Texas since the lines opened — the Rangers have gone from a +104 underdog to a -101 favorite at home, and nine sportsbooks can't even agree on which side is favored on the run line, a spread that ranges from -1.5 to +1.5 depending on the book.

Whichever wild card contender is still half a game back tomorrow morning will have earned it against a schedule that only looked lopsided from the outside.
