One number, eight books, no disagreement: the total is 54.5 at every book The Odds API tracks, 9.2 points above the league average since 2018 (nflverse). The two teams underneath it do not agree with each other. Buffalo's four games have averaged 58.5 combined points (67, 72, 40, 55); Los Angeles's four have averaged 42.0 (34, 34, 56, 44).
Scoring is Buffalo's side of the ledger: 31.8 points a game, second in the NFL, against 26.8 allowed, 25th. Los Angeles is the opposite shape, 21.2 scored (23rd) and 20.8 allowed (8th); ESPN's team page credits the Rams with 153.8 passing yards allowed a game to Buffalo's 274.0. Josh Allen is 79-of-119 for 1,039 yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions, and James Cook has 421 rushing yards.
There is no rest edge: both teams last played Oct. 4 and have nine days. Buffalo flies 2,206 miles and three time zones for a kickoff that is 8:15 PM on its own clock (travel_rest). ESPN's tracker shows the spread opening at Los Angeles -3 and the total at 53.5. The officiating crew has not been posted.
Los Angeles's most recognizable pass rusher is not available. ESPN lists defensive end Myles Garrett on injured reserve with a knee injury, and the Rams have 7 sacks, only five teams fewer, and 20 hits on the quarterback, only four teams fewer (nflverse). Byron Young leads the roster with 3.5 sacks. Safety Quentin Lake, the team's leading tackler with 31, is questionable with a hip injury. On the other side, Allen has been sacked 9 times in four games.
Buffalo is thinner than its 3-1 record. ESPN lists defensive tackle Ed Oliver (knee) and receiver Joshua Palmer (shoulder) as out, and receiver DJ Moore (shoulder), end Landon Jackson (knee) and cornerback Dee Alford (ankle) as questionable. Palmer has two touchdowns on 9 targets in three games; Moore has 20 targets for 178 yards. What remains is real: Greg Rousseau has 6 sacks, the most on either roster, and Buffalo has 33 hits on the quarterback, more than 20 other teams, against a Rams line that has allowed 6 sacks, tied for the second-fewest in the NFL with Dallas, Denver and Kansas City.
The Rams' skill group has its own question. Davante Adams leads the team with 38 targets, 22 catches and 390 yards. Puka Nacua has played two of Los Angeles's four games, with 21 targets for 199 yards, and is not listed on ESPN's injury report (nflverse).
Milwaukee leads the series 1-0 after a 2-1 win in which its bullpen covered 4⅔ innings. Four relievers threw 64 pitches: Aaron Ashby 26, Trevor Megill 19, Abner Uribe 15 and DL Hall 4 (MLB Stats API). Jacob Misiorowski was out after 4⅓ innings and 94 pitches. Los Angeles used three relievers, Alex Vesia, Evan Phillips and Tanner Scott, for 42 pitches over three innings behind Tarik Skubal, who went five.
Game 2 is Yoshinobu Yamamoto against Logan Henderson. Yamamoto had a 2.53 ERA and 182 strikeouts in 185 regular-season innings; Henderson had a 2.47 ERA and 110 strikeouts in 98⅓. The Dodgers scored once in Game 1; Milwaukee won 103 games to Los Angeles's 100.
The pitch counts are workload, not availability; managers set that late. American Family Field has a retractable roof and a 1.01 run factor, and the home plate umpire has not been posted.
