The series moves to Dodger Stadium with Milwaukee two wins from the World Series after taking Games 1 and 2 at home, 2-1 and 7-4, its fifth win in six postseason games (MLB Stats API). Game 4 is Thursday at 6:00 PM PT, so Thursday is the earliest the Brewers can finish it; Game 5 is Friday if needed, and Games 6 and 7 would return to Milwaukee on Sunday and Monday.
The Dodgers' problem has been timing, not traffic. They have 10 hits and 8 walks in two games and 5 runs. In Game 1 they had seven hits and six walks, scored once and went 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position. In Game 2 they scored four times on three hits and went 0-for-4 in those spots: two sacrifice flies, a groundout and a throwing error by Logan Henderson on a sacrifice bunt did the work. That is 1-for-10 for Los Angeles; Milwaukee is 8-for-22 (box scores).
Blake Snell starts for Los Angeles ten days after his only start of the month, 3⅔ innings, 5 walks and 90 pitches against Atlanta on Oct. 4. Robert Gasser starts for Milwaukee seven days after Game 4 of the Division Series, when he threw 4 innings and 56 pitches against San Diego. Both bullpens had Tuesday off after working Sunday and Monday: Aaron Ashby threw 47 pitches across the two games and Abner Uribe 28, while Tanner Scott and Alex Vesia pitched both days for Los Angeles (workload, not availability).
Nine books price Los Angeles between -181 and -169 with the same 7.5 total (The Odds API). Dodger Stadium has a 0.98 run factor and a 1.04 home-run factor, it is 75°F at first pitch with a 7 mph wind, and the home plate umpire has not been posted.
Blake Snell has thrown 46⅓ innings this year without giving up a home run: 42⅔ in the regular season and 3⅔ against Atlanta (MLB Stats API). It comes with a 1.90 ERA, a 1.72 FIP and 31.8% strikeouts, and FanGraphs shows no home run on any of his fly balls (38.0% of balls in play) against a league rate near 12%. Baseball Savant has his curveball, changeup and slider each missing bats at least 43% of the time.
Milwaukee is a different lineup against lefties. In the regular season it hit .245/.327/.379 against them, a .706 OPS with 40 home runs in 1,925 plate appearances, one every 48; against right-handers it was .759 with 114 in 4,374, one every 38 (MLB Stats API, team splits). Both of its NLCS home runs came against left-handers: Brice Turang off Tarik Skubal and William Contreras off Kris Bubic. Jackson Chourio is the exception, with a .979 OPS and 9 home runs in 171 plate appearances against lefties, while Turang (.620), Christian Yelich (.610) and Sal Frelick (.541) sit well below him.
Los Angeles hit lefties at .756 with 67 home runs in 1,947 plate appearances, one every 29. Shohei Ohtani (.881 OPS, 12 home runs in 204 plate appearances), Teoscar Hernández (.907) and Andy Pages (.902) lead that group. Gasser, the other left-hander, allowed 15 home runs in 109⅓ innings this year, 1.23 per nine, and one in four innings against San Diego (FanGraphs; MLB Stats API). The question on each side is power against a pitcher of the same hand, and the two lineups answer it differently.
Behind them, FanGraphs lists Milwaukee at +62 Defensive Runs Saved (DRS) and +19 Outs Above Average (OAA), and Los Angeles at +37 and +14. Turang is worth +11.7 runs of FanGraphs Def at second base. The Dodgers made two errors in Game 2, by Freddie Freeman and Pages.
Of the nine books in The Odds API's NHL feed, DraftKings and FanDuel have the total at 5.5, six books at 6.0 and BetRivers at 6.5. The prices move with the number: DraftKings has the over at 5.5 priced -135, BetRivers the over at 6.5 priced +112. A full goal separates the high and the low on the board, and tonight's game has a fresh data point: Colorado won 3-2 in Dallas on Tuesday (ESPN).
That game is also why tonight is a schedule story. Both clubs played Tuesday, so this is the second game in two nights for each, the same two teams in the other building. Colorado is 4-2-0 and Dallas 2-3-1 (ESPN).
Nathan MacKinnon had two assists in Dallas and has 5 goals in Colorado's six games, 4 of them in three home games (NHL API). Dallas' Mikko Rantanen and Jason Robertson have two goals each. ESPN's DraftKings line has Colorado at -148 and the consensus across nine books is -150.
