Something gives. Alabama's offense has scored 45, 48, 49, 50 and 56 points, an average of 49.6; Georgia's defense has allowed 3, 13, 14, 17 and 20, an average of 13.4. Georgia's own offense averages 51.4 against an Alabama defense that has given up 17 or more in four of five games, including 36 to Florida State.

The quarterbacks grade almost even by CFBD's PPA. Alabama's Keelon Russell is 94 of 132 for 1,414 yards, 11 touchdowns and two interceptions, at 0.62 points a play over 166 plays. Georgia's Gunner Stockton is 77 of 102 for 1,049 yards, 13 touchdowns and one interception, at 0.61 over 121. Each had his best recent night against a conference opponent: Russell went 16 of 22 for 285 yards and three touchdowns against Mississippi State, Stockton 25 of 32 for 295 and three against Vanderbilt.

The number has flipped. ESPN's DraftKings feed shows Georgia opening a 3-point favorite; Alabama is now -2.5 at home, a 5.5-point swing, and Georgia's moneyline has gone from -142 to +105 as the No. 2 team plays as the road underdog. Nine books agree on the direction (consensus Alabama -2.1, range -2.5 to -1.5), so it is not one book's number. The tags mark the size of the move, not who made it.

By CFBD, Georgia's offense is worth 0.43 points a play and Alabama's 0.38; on defense Georgia allows -0.13 and Alabama -0.08, where negative favors the defense. SP+ rates Georgia 30.2 and Alabama 23.0. Tuscaloosa is forecast at 63°F with a 6 mph wind at kickoff (WIS 0/7).

Dallas is forecast at 88°F and clear, with a 7 mph wind at kickoff (WIS 0/7), so nothing outside the stadium explains the lowest total on Saturday's ESPN board. The scoring does. Oklahoma has 88 points in four games, 22.0 a game, and 37 in its last three, 12.3 a game: 10 against Michigan, 14 against New Mexico and 13 against Georgia, after a 51-0 opener against UTEP.

Texas is 4-0 and has won narrowly twice, 24-23 over Ohio State and 20-17 over Tennessee. Its defense has allowed 13.3 points a game, but its offense grades at 0.08 points a play by CFBD's PPA, against 0.43 for Georgia and 0.38 for Alabama in the same data. Oklahoma's defense grades at -0.17 and Texas's at -0.04, where negative favors the defense, so the Sooners' side of the ball is the one with the better number even after Georgia scored 41.

At quarterback, Texas's Arch Manning is 73 of 115 for 862 yards, seven touchdowns and three interceptions; last time out he was 14 of 19 for 201 yards with one interception. Oklahoma's John Mateer is 72 of 109 for 883 yards, eight touchdowns and four interceptions. Texas's Colin Simmons leads the team with 7.5 sacks (ESPN); Oklahoma's Adepoju Adebawore leads the Sooners with 2.5.

SP+ has Texas at 22.4 and Oklahoma at 12.8. Nine books put the total between 38.5 and 39.5, so the number is not one book's.

Cleveland's 9-3 and 9-5 wins in Games 3 and 4 tied the series. Gavin Williams starts Game 5 for Cleveland. He threw 98 pitches over five innings in Game 1 (two earned runs, 11 strikeouts) and then came out of the bullpen Thursday: one inning, 18 pitches. In the regular season he had a 3.76 ERA with 248 strikeouts in 184.1 innings.

Chicago's Sean Burke starts on five days since Game 1, when he threw 83 pitches over 5.1 innings and allowed one earned run. His regular-season line was a 3.34 ERA and 185 strikeouts in 172.1 innings.

Neither bullpen is fresh. Chicago used seven pitchers Thursday, led by Erick Fedde's 61 pitches over 3.2 innings after Hagen Smith's 27 pitches in two-thirds of an inning. Smith, Tyler Davis and Bryan Hudson have each pitched both Wednesday and Thursday. Cleveland used eight pitchers Thursday, and Cade Smith (19 and 31 pitches), Tim Herrin (18 and 13), Hunter Gaddis (12 and 16) and Shawn Armstrong (5 and 19) each pitched in both games. These are pitch counts, not availability reports; the managers decide who pitches.

No home-plate umpire was assigned in the feeds when this issue was built. Cleveland is forecast at 69°F with a 7 mph wind at first pitch (WIS 0/7).
